Suffolk Overview - Positioned to the north-east of The city of London, the county of Suffolk is part of the region of The United Kingdom generally known as East Anglia. The county has an area of 1,466 square miles plus a population of approximately seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county is bounded by the counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, the capital town is Ipswich, and additional major towns are Lowestoft, Newmarket, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds. Suffolk is mostly flat and low-lying, you will find wetland areas in the northern part of the county that are part of The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
