Suffolk Overview - Set to the north-east of London, the county of Suffolk is within the area of Great Britain called East Anglia. The county of Suffolk has an area of 1,466 sq mls plus a population of about 0.73 million. The county touches the neighbouring counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, Ipswich is the major town, while additional vital towns include Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Newmarket, Felixstowe and Lowestoft. The county of Suffolk is typically flat and low-lying, in the north of the county you can find wetland areas which are part of The Broads. During the period 1889-1974 the county was divided into two administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
