Suffolk Overview - Set to the north-east of London, the county of Suffolk is within the region of The United Kingdom generally known as East Anglia. Suffolk incorporates an area of 1,466 square mls and a population of around 0.73 million. The county touches the neighbouring counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, Ipswich is the county town, while additional important towns include Lowestoft, Stowmarket, Felixstowe, Newmarket and Bury Saint Edmunds. The county is primarily low-lying and flat, in the northern part of the county you can find wetland areas which are part of The Broads National Park. During the period 1889-1974 Suffolk was separated into 2 administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
