Suffolk Overview - Placed to the north-east of Greater london, the rural county of Suffolk is in the region of Great Britain generally known as East Anglia. The county has a land area of 1,466 sq miles and has a population of roughly 730,000. The county touches the counties of Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex, the capital town is Ipswich, and other vital towns include Bury St Edmunds, Felixstowe, Stowmarket, Newmarket and Lowestoft. Suffolk is generally low-lying and flat, you will find wetland areas in the north of the county which are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
