Suffolk Overview - Found to the north-east of London, the rural county of Suffolk is in the region of England generally known as East Anglia. Suffolk incorporates an area of 1,466 sq miles plus a population of roughly seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county of Suffolk is bounded by the neighbouring counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, Ipswich is the major town, while other significant towns include Lowestoft, Stowmarket, Newmarket, Felixstowe and Bury St Edmunds. During the period 1889-1974 Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
