Suffolk Overview - Situated to the north-east of The city of London, the county of Suffolk is in the area of England called East Anglia. The county incorporates an area of 1,466 square mls and has a population of about 730,000. Suffolk is bounded by the neighbouring counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, the major town is Ipswich, whilst additional vital towns include Lowestoft, Felixstowe, Newmarket, Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds. The county is principally low-lying and flat, there are wetland areas in the north of the county that are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
