Suffolk Overview - To be found to the north-east of The city of London, the county of Suffolk is part of the area of Great Britain called East Anglia. The county of Suffolk has an area of 1,466 square miles and a population of around 730,000. The county borders the counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, Ipswich is the county town, while other vital towns are Lowestoft, Stowmarket, Felixstowe, Newmarket and Bury Saint Edmunds. The county is for the most part low-lying and flat, in the northern part of the county there are wetland areas which are within The Broads National Park. During the period 1889-1974 Suffolk was separated into two administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
