Suffolk Overview - Located to the north-east of Greater london, the rural county of Suffolk is part of the area of The United Kingdom known as East Anglia. The county of Suffolk has an area of 1,466 sq miles plus a population of about 730,000. The county of Suffolk touches the neighbouring counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, Ipswich is the major town, while other important towns include Lowestoft, Felixstowe, Stowmarket, Newmarket and Bury Saint Edmunds. The county is largely flat and low-lying, you'll find wetland areas in the north of the county which are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 the county was split into two administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
