Suffolk Overview - Placed to the north-east of Greater london, the county of Suffolk is in the region of England generally known as East Anglia. The county has a land area of 1,466 square miles and has a population of roughly seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county of Suffolk borders the counties of Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex, Ipswich is the capital town, whilst other significant towns are Lowestoft, Felixstowe, Newmarket, Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds. Suffolk is primarily low-lying and flat, you will discover wetland areas in the northern part of the county that are part of The Broads National Park. During the period 1889-1974 the county was divided into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
