Suffolk Overview - Positioned to the north-east of Greater london, the rural county of Suffolk is in the region of England referred to as East Anglia. The county incorporates a land area of 1,466 sq miles and has a population of about seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county borders the counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, Ipswich is the major town, whilst other major towns are Lowestoft, Stowmarket, Felixstowe, Newmarket and Bury Saint Edmunds. Suffolk is principally flat and low-lying, you can find wetland areas in the north of the county which are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 Suffolk was divided into two administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
