Suffolk Overview - To be found to the north-east of The city of London, the rural county of Suffolk is in the area of England generally known as East Anglia. The county of Suffolk incorporates a land area of 1,466 sq miles plus a population of around 730,000. Suffolk is bordered by the counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, Ipswich is the major town, whilst additional significant towns include Bury St Edmunds, Felixstowe, Stowmarket, Newmarket and Lowestoft. From 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
