Suffolk Overview - Located to the north-east of Greater london, the county of Suffolk is part of the area of The UK generally known as East Anglia. The county of Suffolk has a land area of 1,466 sq mls along with a population of roughly 730,000. Suffolk is bounded by the neighbouring counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, the major town is Ipswich, while other major towns include Lowestoft, Stowmarket, Felixstowe, Newmarket and Bury Saint Edmunds. The county is mainly flat and low-lying, in the northern part of the county you'll find wetland areas that are within The Broads National Park. During the period 1889-1974 the county was split into 2 administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
