Suffolk Overview - To be found to the north-east of London, the rural county of Suffolk is in the region of England called East Anglia. Suffolk has a land area of 1,466 square mls and a population of around 730,000. The county of Suffolk is bordered by the neighbouring counties of Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, Ipswich is the capital town, whilst other important towns are Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Felixstowe, Newmarket and Lowestoft. The county of Suffolk is principally flat and low-lying, there are wetland areas in the northern part of the county which are part of The Broads National Park. During the period 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was separated into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
