Suffolk Overview - Based to the north-east of London, the rural county of Suffolk is part of the area of The United Kingdom generally known as East Anglia. Suffolk incorporates an area of 1,466 sq mls along with a population of about 0.73 million. The county of Suffolk is bounded by the neighbouring counties of Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, Ipswich is the capital town, whilst other major towns are Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and Lowestoft. The county of Suffolk is principally low-lying and flat, you will discover wetland areas in the northern part of the county which are within The Broads. During the period 1889-1974 Suffolk was separated into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
