Suffolk Overview - Located to the north-east of London, the rural county of Suffolk is within the region of Great Britain known as East Anglia. Suffolk has an area of 1,466 square miles plus a population of roughly 730,000. The county borders the counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, the capital town is Ipswich, whilst other important towns include Lowestoft, Felixstowe, Stowmarket, Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds. The county of Suffolk is mainly low-lying and flat, in the northern part of the county you'll find wetland areas which are part of The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was split into 2 administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
