Suffolk Overview - Set to the north-east of Greater london, the rural county of Suffolk is in the region of The UK generally known as East Anglia. The county incorporates a land area of 1,466 sq miles and a population of about 730,000. The county of Suffolk touches the neighbouring counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, the major town is Ipswich, and additional significant towns are Bury Saint Edmunds, Felixstowe, Newmarket, Stowmarket and Lowestoft. Suffolk is primarily flat and low-lying, in the northern part of the county you can find wetland areas that are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was separated into two administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
