Suffolk Overview - Based to the north-east of London, the county of Suffolk is part of the region of England referred to as East Anglia. The county of Suffolk has an area of 1,466 square miles along with a population of about 730,000. The county of Suffolk borders the neighbouring counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Essex, the major town is Ipswich, whilst other significant towns are Lowestoft, Newmarket, Stowmarket, Felixstowe and Bury St Edmunds. From 1889-1974 Suffolk was divided into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
