Suffolk Overview - Found to the north-east of London, the rural county of Suffolk is within the region of The United Kingdom known as East Anglia. The county has an area of 1,466 sq miles and a population of around seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county is bordered by the counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, the major town is Ipswich, while additional vital towns include Bury St Edmunds, Felixstowe, Newmarket, Stowmarket and Lowestoft. The county is for the most part low-lying and flat, in the north of the county you will find wetland areas that are part of The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 the county of Suffolk was split into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
