Suffolk Overview - Situated to the north-east of Greater london, the rural county of Suffolk is within the region of Great Britain generally known as East Anglia. The county incorporates a land area of 1,466 sq mls plus a population of around seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county of Suffolk touches the counties of Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, Ipswich is the major town, whilst additional important towns include Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Stowmarket, Felixstowe and Lowestoft. Suffolk is largely low-lying and flat, you will find wetland areas in the north of the county which are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 Suffolk was split into 2 administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
