Suffolk Overview - Found to the north-east of Greater london, the rural county of Suffolk is within the region of Great Britain generally known as East Anglia. Suffolk has a land area of 1,466 sq miles plus a population of approximately 730,000. The county borders the neighbouring counties of Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, Ipswich is the county town, while additional important towns are Lowestoft, Newmarket, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds. The county of Suffolk is mainly flat and low-lying, you will discover wetland areas in the north of the county which are within The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 the county was split into two administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
