Suffolk Overview - Established to the north-east of The city of London, the rural county of Suffolk is in the region of Great Britain referred to as East Anglia. The county has a land area of 1,466 sq mls and has a population of about 0.73 million. Suffolk borders the neighbouring counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, Ipswich is the major town, whilst other significant towns are Bury Saint Edmunds, Stowmarket, Newmarket, Felixstowe and Lowestoft. The county is typically flat and low-lying, in the northern part of the county you'll find wetland areas that are part of The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 Suffolk was split into 2 administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
