Suffolk Overview - Established to the north-east of The city of London, the rural county of Suffolk is in the region of England generally known as East Anglia. The county of Suffolk incorporates a land area of 1,466 square mls along with a population of approximately 730,000. Suffolk touches the neighbouring counties of Cambridgeshire, Essex and Norfolk, the major town is Ipswich, whilst other major towns include Lowestoft, Felixstowe, Newmarket, Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds. Suffolk is largely flat and low-lying, in the northern part of the county you'll find wetland areas which are part of The Broads National Park. From 1889-1974 Suffolk was separated into two administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
